On Monday 23rd May 2016, North Yorkshire County Council Planning Committee approved the application to begin fracking at Kirby Misperton in Ryedale. The meeting started on Friday 20th May and continued for two whole days before the committee voted, passing the application by 7 votes to 4. The council received 4375 written objections to the application and only 36 in support. Almost 100 people spoke at the meeting against the application. Hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside County Hall in Northallerton where there was a stage, and sound from the meeting was being broadcast. The demonstration was well supported by members of Frack Free Harrogate District and other residents of our area, and many of them made spoken representations to the councillors.
We are naturally very disappointed by this decision but everybody in the group is determined to fight on against the KM8 fracking operation and to oppose any further attempts to frack in Yorkshire or anywhere in the UK.
